The term Smile designing is a very common term used by dentists. However it is not so simple as it sounds. Smile designing includes various dental treatments to make you have a beautiful and perfect smile that matches your facial features and symmetry. It can include various procedures like anterior crowns and bridges, tooth laminates, tooth veneers, composite fillings etc. Smile designing can be accomplished using a combination of these various mentioned procedures.

One difference between a cosmetic dentist and a general dentist is that a cosmetic dentist, before doing any cosmetic dentistry work that involves multiple front teeth, will often perform a “Smile Design” consultation. Cosmetic dentists understand that communication with the patient over what they expect, what they want their teeth to look like, is critical to their success. During the consultation we will generate what is called a “Diagnostic Wax-Up” to clearly communicate with the patient. The Diagnostic Wax-Up is a set of Casts where we will compare the patient’s current condition of their teeth versus the Proposed Final Outcome or Proposed Final Cosmetic Results. Cosmetic dentistry is a self-esteem service. As such, if the result is not pleasing to the patient, the treatment is a failure. Quite frankly, the artistic sensitivity that makes a good cosmetic dentist often goes against the grain of the training that occurs in dental schools. Cosmetic dentists are almost a "different breed" from your usual family dentist. A Cosmetic Dentist has a certain passion about aesthetics and creating “Beautiful Smiles” that makes him or her want to dedicate his or her practice to this aspect of dentistry and to pursue extensive training in this special field. If you are contemplating cosmetic dentistry, we recommend using the services of a specially trained cosmetic dentist rather than a general dentist who merely claims expertise in cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Pritika (Dimple) Ajwani and Dr. Himanshu Ajwani have undergone advanced training in aesthetic and cosmetic dentistry.
