Bad Breath

Bad breath, also called halitosis, can be annoying and in some cases may even cause anxiety. It is also associated with depression and symptoms of obsessive compulsive disorder. Bad breath, can be a major problem, especially when you're about to whisper a joke to your friend.

Causes of Bad Breath

The various foods and beverages people consume have a direct correlation on their overall health. Certain foods can affect the production of bacteria in the mouth. In addition to this, it causes the mouth to give of a foul smell due to residue that sticks to the gums, teeth and mouth lining.

Other Causes for bad breath is certain illnesses such as gallbladder dysfunction, liver disease, diabetes and sinus infections. Some allergies can also cause the mouth to give off a foul scent.

People who smoke are far more likely to suffer from a particular type oral odor called, what else, smoker's breath. Inhaling hot gases/smoke dries your mouth.

Tips to get rid of bad breath

1.Brush and floss more often.

If you are really worried about bad breath then brush your teeth at least two times each day and floss at least once.

2.Rinse your mouth daily.

Rinse daily with a good mouthwash and get rid of bad breath. Carefully choose mouthwash that kills the germs.

3.Scrape your tongue.

If your brush is too big to comfortably reach the back of your tongue, try a scraper. They’re designed specifically to apply equal pressure across the surface of the tongue area. This expels bacteria, food debris, and dead cells that brushing alone can’t help it out.

4.Avoid foods that sour your breath.

Avoid eating Onions and garlic. But brushing after you eat them doesn’t help.

5.Avoid tobacco chewing.

Apart from causing cancer, smoking can damage your gums, stain your teeth, and give you bad breath.

6.Keep your gums healthy and clean.

Gum disease causes bad breath. Bacteria gather in pockets at the base of teeth, which creates an odor.

7.Drink plenty of water to keep your mouth Moist.

You can get bad breath if you don’t make enough saliva. If your mouth is dry, drink plenty of water during the day.

It is tough to Smell one’s own breath odor, although many people with bad breath are able to detect it in others.


If bad breath is constant, and all other medical and dental factors have been figured out, specialized testing and treatment is required.
